My connection to BLC is through family: I am the father to two BLC alumni, Sarah Title
and Robin Title. My other connection – a bit more distant – is through my wife, Laurie. Her
mom, Betsy Russell, was a camper in the 1940s; her aunt, Marion Palm (Freckles), was a camper
and a counselor during the same decade and beyond.
I come to the BLC board from a 45-year career working to improve the lives of children
through public education. Starting as a high school history teacher in 1979, I continued my
career in leadership roles, mostly as an assistant superintendent of schools (Waterford, CT, 1990-
2002) and a superintendent of schools (Bloomfield, CT, 2002-2010; Fairfield, CT, 2010-2016).
Since 2016 I have served as a professor of Educational Leadership at Sacred Heart University in
Fairfield, CT.
My family includes my wife Laurie (married since 1986), as well as three children:
daughter Sarah Title, who lives with her husband Gavin Hilburn in Alexandria, Virginia, son
Russell, daughter Robin, and an Australian Labradoodle named Storm.
