COVID-19 Update 03/11/20
Posted May 1st, 2020
Last weekend we had a Brown Ledge Foundation Board Meeting in Boston. The Board provides an extra layer of support for Brown Ledge, ensuring that each summer our campers, parents, and staff receive the quality program that we are known for. We are fortunate to have a very involved and supportive Board of Directors who donate a tremendous amount of time and talent to BLC.
Our meeting was focused on plans and preparations for the coming summer, with a large portion dedicated to the coronavirus and its possible impact on camp. While we continue to believe that the virus poses a very low risk to camp, and our camper population, we are taking the virus seriously and keeping a watchful eye on its development.
Currently, our main task is to listen and learn from trusted resources — the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Vermont Department of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the American Camping Association (ACA) – about what is new or different about this virus. All are providing weekly and sometimes daily updates.
The safety of our campers and staff has always been the top priority for BLC. Our health center, led by Melissa Mauer for over 20 years, has had communicable disease plans in place for decades. Living in close proximity as we do, we have had plenty of practice identifying and treating various viruses and illnesses. Our next task will be to review our existing communicable disease protocols and plans. As the information surrounding coronavirus becomes more accurate, we will review our existing protocols to make sure that they align with recommendations from the Vermont Health Department and the CDC.
We may decide that certain tweaks are necessary to do what is practicable to prevent the virus from arriving at camp. If we make any changes to our protocols, you will be informed of the adjustments well before camp starts.
We are all looking forward to our 94th summer on the shores of beautiful Malletts Bay. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
